Renault Trafic III conversion planning
Renault Trafic III dimensions for L1H1 and L2H1 layouts
Compare two diesel panel-van references from the recorded Renault Switzerland May 2026 edition 15.0. Both are H1; floor load length excludes the passenger-seat and footwell extension. The planner uses generic editable contours rather than traced Renault body surfaces.
Compare the supported body sizes
All dimensions below are in millimetres. Cargo widths and heights are published maxima for an unconverted reference, before insulation, lining or furniture. Match the body, drivetrain and source edition to your vehicle.
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways to compare every measurement. The side-door column gives the nominal opening width × height, rather than its position along the van.

The editable wall and roof contours, wheel-arch shapes and door positions are reconstructed planning estimates. These references are not manufacturer CAD or a measured survey of your van. Check the actual vehicle before cutting or ordering parts.
- The side-door width shown is the published 1,030 mm opening at 100 mm above the floor. At 600 mm above the floor the cited width is 907 mm. Check the actual aperture for the height and shape of the item being loaded.
- Cargo-floor lengths are 2,537 mm for L1H1 and 2,937 mm for L2H1, excluding the passenger-seat/footwell extension. At 1 m above the floor they reduce to 2,250 mm and 2,650 mm respectively.
- The set excludes crew-cab layouts, H2 roofs, aftermarket elevating roofs and unlisted generations. A shared Trafic name does not establish identical usable space.
- The planner uses a generic editable wall and roof profile, with estimated wheel-arch positions, lengths and heights. These are not traced manufacturer contours, body-rib maps or measurements of your vehicle.
- Renault's rolling source URL served August 2026 edition 16.0 when checked on 3 November 2026. Its L1H1/L2H1 dimension table agreed with the values shown here; the editor's recorded May source label is retained.
Make the extra 400 mm answer a layout need
The listed L2H1 adds 400 mm of floor length and wheelbase over L1H1, while maximum width, cargo height and the recorded side-door envelope remain the same. Compare what that space does for the bed, kitchen and storage rather than assuming a longer body changes the width available for sleeping.
For a compact weekender, test a fixed bed against a daytime seating arrangement that extends at night. Include bedding storage, the occupied aisle and the steps needed for the changeover. Reserve the items you will carry before filling the remaining space with cabinets.
Use the door width at the right height
A 1,030 mm doorway maximum cannot be treated as a rectangle of that width all the way up. The recorded 907 mm width at 600 mm height matters when loading a tall cabinet or arranging a kitchen beside the entrance. Check the vehicle's seals, trim and door movement as well as the published opening.
The editor's doorway is a planning envelope, with estimated position and travel. Keep the entrance visible in the layout and check the route for a person carrying belongings. Mock up awkward items at full size before building or ordering them.
Check the upper space before refining furniture
The 1,387 mm unlined cargo height is reduced by the actual floor and roof build-ups. Check seated headroom, mattress height and overhead storage after these allowances. The shorter lengths at 1 m above the floor also mean the front of a tall unit cannot be positioned from floor length alone.
The planner's front return and wall curve are generic estimates. Measure the actual surface where furniture meets the body, then adjust the reference and component sizes. Keep electrical and water equipment visible beneath benches so service space is not counted twice as luggage storage.

Before you begin
A few useful answers.
Does the Trafic cargo length include the passenger footwell?
No. The references use 2,537 mm for L1H1 and 2,937 mm for L2H1 at floor level without the passenger-seat/footwell extension. They do not turn a load-through space into an unobstructed living-area floor.
Is the Trafic side door 1,030 mm wide throughout its height?
No. The cited table gives 1,030 mm at 100 mm above the floor and 907 mm at 600 mm above it. Measure the actual aperture and the item that must pass through it.
