Mercedes-Benz Sprinter conversion planning
Sprinter dimensions for comparing campervan layouts
Inspect four VS30 rear-wheel-drive, 3.5 tonne planning references. H2 sizes follow the September 2024 UK brochure; L2H1 is an explicitly older October 2019 reference.
Compare the supported body sizes
All dimensions below are in millimetres. Cargo widths and heights are published maxima for an unconverted reference, before insulation, lining or furniture. Match the body, drivetrain and source edition to your vehicle.
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways to compare every measurement. The side-door column gives the nominal opening width × height, rather than its position along the van.

The editable wall and roof contours, wheel-arch shapes and door positions are reconstructed planning estimates. These references are not manufacturer CAD or a measured survey of your van. Check the actual vehicle before cutting or ordering parts.
- All dimensions are millimetres. Cargo dimensions are nominal maxima; the side-door column shows opening width × height. These are RWD 3.5 tonne references, not FWD or AWD dimensions.
- L2H1 uses the October 2019 manufacturer brochure, whose archived filename mentions 2020. Its inclusion does not claim that this older configuration can currently be ordered.
- Floor load length and shorter upper drawing lengths are different dimensions. Neither a maximum width nor a floor length describes the whole finished interior.
Compare length without assuming a uniform interior box
A longer floor can make a bathroom or permanent bed easier to explore, but the upper cargo area and wheel arches still need checking. In the planner, compare the furniture, equipment access and entrance together rather than treating extra floor length as automatically usable storage.
The L3 and L4 references share a wheelbase; the extra L4 length sits in the rear overhang. Moving an under-bed tank or tall storage between those layouts should therefore be checked against the rear axle and door area, not just a scaled floor rectangle.
Review tall storage after allowing for insulation
Start with the correct body size, then set your wall, roof and floor build-ups. Place the bed and overhead cupboards alongside the wall profile, checking sitting room above the mattress and clearance at the top corners of storage.
Add batteries, chargers, tanks and pipe routes in their own layers. Fade the furniture to inspect their access, then return to the complete layout before deciding that the storage volume is free for belongings.
Measure the local fit before making panels
The nominal dimensions and their editions are recorded separately from the reconstructed wall and roof shapes. Wheel-arch cover profiles, their registration within the cargo area and local door details remain planning references. Confirm the actual vehicle where a scribed edge, mattress span or narrow passage depends on a close fit.

A few useful answers.
Which Sprinter lengths and roof sizes can I compare?
The library includes L2H2, L3H2 and L4H2 using UK September 2024 RWD 3.5 tonne figures, plus an older October 2019 L2H1 reference. Other drivetrains, weight classes and roof combinations are not inferred from them.
Is the maximum Sprinter cargo width a finished cross-van bed length?
No. It is a nominal maximum, not a clear span at every height. Check the proposed mattress height, wall shape, lining and any local obstructions on your own van.
